The number of freelance photographers working in interior design has grown dramatically over the past decade.
And yet the work of interior designers continues to get overlooked, as many of the jobs that were once considered so glamorous in their field are still deemed so challenging.
A new report by the nonprofit Institute for Supply Chain Management (ISM) finds that a large percentage of interior design jobs are now considered “unviable” because they aren’t getting the attention they need to be profitable.
The report, titled How to Pay a Photographer, reveals that the “unemployment rate for interior designers is far above average,” and that a recent survey by the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) found that there were nearly two million vacancies for interior design professionals in the U.S. today.
While the shortage of interior designer jobs is a concern for many, the institute says the shortage isn’t limited to the U
