An interior designer who is Indian has a point when she explains why she wants to design Indian homes, whether they are sleek or traditional.
In the past few years, many Indian designers have been moving into traditional design, often by using indigenous materials such as bamboo, sandstone and teak, and using the most traditional Indian crafts in the process.
In a recent interview with India Today, Kavita Shah, the director of architecture at Kavish Group, a luxury residential development in Mumbai, explained why she is inspired by the country’s history.
“We don’t like being dictated to by the western world.
We don’t need to be told what to do by Westerners.
But we have a history of our own.
We have to work with that,” she said.
When asked how she defines Indian, she said, “It is the spirit of hospitality and hospitality means that you don’t treat people badly, that you treat each other with dignity.
And I think that is what is most important.
And if you are in India, you will love the country and you will feel a sense of pride in it.”
Shah is working on a project for a new residential building in Mumbai called The Residence, and says she has a personal connection to India.
“I have visited India several times, and I have a lot of admiration for India.
I feel that we have very little history there, and that is why we are looking for a place to live.
So that is the first part of the project,” she told India Today.
She added that her personal connections have allowed her to bring together a group of designers and artists who are inspired by India’s past.
“It is important to get that idea out of our minds and to put it in practice.
And the more we are able to connect with the indigenous elements in the house, the better,” she added.
Shah said that she wanted to combine elements from a variety of styles, and wanted to capture the spirit and the spirit was a key ingredient of the house.
“If you look at our house, it has a lot that is not necessarily Indian,” she explained.
“The spirit is the essence, it is a living space that we live in, and it has to be very comfortable, with a lot going on inside.”
